It’s official, Bedside Kosher’s first ever crowdfunding campaign, which ended on Thursday May 6th, has exceeded expectations.
Bedside Kosher received an amazing £359,000 in donations in just 36 hours, and it’s safe to say the operation can continue to provide those vital meals to Jewish hospital patients for the foreseeable future. Bedside Kosher want to say a big thank you from the bottom of their hearts to the 9,000 people and organisations of all kinds who donated, alongside everyone who supported the campaign, and those who offered kind and inspiring messages.
This money is vital for continued efforts. Bedside Kosher provides Kosher meals, snacks and drinks to Jewish patients throughout the UK. At the moment, hospital patients on a kosher diet have no access to breakfasts, snacks, or fresh food, meaning their diet lacks vital nutrition to aid their recovery.
In addition to providing meals, Bedside Kosher is also working with the NHS on their hospital food review committee, providing expertise and recommendations on how their cultural menu can be improved.
In the past twelve months, Bedside Kosher has gone from delivering a few breakfasts to a local hospital ward, to providing tens of thousands of meals to over fifty hospitals. During the pandemic, the team recruited hundreds of community volunteers to work around the clock preparing, delivering and taking orders.
Ari Feferkorn, Founder and Chairman of Bedside Kosher said:
“The response to our crowdfunding campaign has surpassed all our expectations. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who supported and volunteered. We asked for help and you responded with great generosity. This means more to me than I can ever say. I’m so relieved that we are able to continue supporting Jewish patients throughout the UK, with the funds to ensure they can still receive the kind of fresh, healthy diet that they need to maximise their chance of recovering from illness and injury. Currently, patients in hospitals can’t even get food parcels from family visitors. For Jewish patients in particular, this means they are struggling to get the nutrition they need to recover.”
“If you can, please continue to share our social media posts with your friends and family. Although our crowdfunder has ended, we are still accepting donations. And every penny will go towards providing a meal for someone who needs it.”
